St.Michaelsmedaille

SSG Martin Patterson sprang am 3.August 2003 in Fort Benning mit seiner Rangerkompanie ab. Bei der Landung wurde Patterson unglücklich von einem Blitz erfaßt und bewußtlos in das Militärhospital in Fort Benning eingeliefert. Monatelang kämpften die Ärzte um Pattersons Leben und Gesundheit.
Dank seiner robusten Rangernatur, konnte SSG Patterson Monate nach diesem ungewöhnlichen Sprungunfall das Militärhospital in Fort Benning verlassen und in seiner Rangerkompanie den Dienst wieder aufnehmen.
Über unseren EMFV Kameraden Stabsfeldwebel Manfred Jerabek, der als Verbindungsunteroffizier in Fort Benning stationiert war, erfuhr das Präsidium des EMFV von diesem Geschehen und spontan wurde beschlossen, SSG Martin Patterson mit der St.Michaelsmedaille auszuzeichnen. Während einer kleinen Feierstunde überreichte dann Stabsfeldwebel Manfred Jerabek mit einem „Airborne all the Way und Rangers lead the Way“ an SSG Martin Patterson die St.Michaelsmedaille.
Das Präsidium des EMFV wünscht Kamerad Martin Patterson immer ein "Glück-ab und weiterhin viel Soldatenglück".

"SSG Martin Patterson on 3 August 2003 jumped with his Ranger Company at Fort Benning. On landing, Patterson was unfortunately hit by lightning and was taken unconsious to the Army Medical Center at Fort Benning. For months, the doctors fought for Patterson's life and health.
Thanks to his robust Ranger nature, a few months after this unusual jump accident SSG Patterson was able to leave the Army Medical Center and resume his normal duties within the Ranger Company.
The EMPA Board learned of this incident through our EMPA member Sergeant Major Manfred Jerabek, who was posted to Fort Benning as liaison NCO, and decided instantly to award the Saint Michael's medal to SSG Patterson. At a small ceremony, Sergeant Major Jerabek handed over the Saint Michael's medal to SSG Patterson with an "Airborne all the way and Rangers lead the way!"
The EMPA Board wishes trooper Martin Patterson continued good luck as a soldier, always!

Le SSG Martin Patterson à sauté le 3 août 2003 à Fort Benning, avec sa Compagnie de Ranger. Lors de l' arrivé au sol,Patterson à été touché par un Eclair, et était évacué sans connaissance sur l' hôpital Militaire de Fort Benning. Pendant des mois, ce dernier combattait la mort.
Grâce à sa bonne condition physique, le SSG Patterson pouvait après quelques mois quitter l' hôpital Militaire et rejoindre sa Compagnie de Ranger.
Dès que nous étions au courant de cette aventure, nous avons mandaté notre camarade Manfred Jerabek, qui est à Fort Benning comme attaché Militaire, de remettre la Médaille de St Michel au SSG Patterson, au Nom de l' Association européenne de Parachutisme Militaire.
